Summit-Westat team selected by HHS for the MEPS-MPC Evaluation Award
September 25, 2019 •Melissa Cichantek
September 2019 (Washington, D.C.) – Summit Consulting (Summit) is proud to announce it has won new evaluation work from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
Summit, along with our partner Westat, will support AHRQ in its mission to “produce evidence to make health care safer, higher quality, more accessible, equitable, and affordable, and to work within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and with other partners to make sure that the evidence is understood and used.”
Our team will be evaluating the data collection procedures used by AHRQ’s Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS).
About MEPS:
MEPS is the only national data source measuring how Americans use and pay for medical care, health insurance, and out-of-pocket spending. Annual surveys of individuals and families, as well as their health care providers, provide data on health status, the use of medical services, charges, insurance coverage, and satisfaction with care. – AHRQ MEPS website
With this task order award, the Summit-Westat team will “evaluate specific aspects of the data collection strategy that supports the Medical Provider Component (MPC) of MEPS” to help AHRQ make the process of collecting data more efficient, less costly and higher quality.
“Summit has deep experience using evaluation techniques to improve processes. Our team uses process improvement to allow our staff to carefully tailor the tool to the client’s needs,” said Dr. Oswaldo Urdapilleta, Summit’s Director of Health and Employment. “We are excited to be working with Westat to help HHS improve its data strategy.”
