Untitled design (6).pngDr. Austin Lasseter is a co-author on a research paper that will be presented at the annual meeting of the Association for Education Finance and Policy (AEFP) in Washington, DC. The paper is titled "Enabling Teacher-centric Analysis through Multiplicity-adjusted Indirect Sampling Estimation from Teacher Data Linked to Student Data." The lead author is Dr. Avinash Singh of the American Institutes for Research.

From the abstract:

NAEP’s contribution to research on teachers and teacher effects is possible due to data gathered through the NAEP teacher questionnaire. Yet in spite of the immense value of NAEP teacher-level data, their analysis has been limited until now because teachers have not been used as the unit of analysis. This paper examines the feasibility of constructing representative sampling weights for NAEP teachers and using them in teacher-centric analyses of NAEP data. We will show that it is possible to conduct teacher-weighted analyses of NAEP teacher data, and then demonstrate the results of single-level and multi-level analyses using teacher weights. Our study is intended to inform how NCES collects, disseminates and analyzes NAEP teacher data.

The presentation of the paper has been scheduled for session 4.06 (Bayesian Strategies for Improved Prediction and Data Analysis) on Thursday, March 16, 2017, from 4:15pm to 5:45pm. The session chair is Douglas Harris, Director of the Education Research Alliance for New Orleans.

A full description of the conference is available on the AEFP webpage.
