Summit Fellowship in Applied Economics

To support graduate students dedicated to advancing economics through innovative data analysis, Summit established the Summit Fellowship Award at the UCLA Department of Economics.
Inspired by senior founding partner Albert Lee, who earned his PhD in economics at UCLA, this award reflects our commitment to nurturing the next generation of data scientists.

Antonia Martner

Antonio Martner
Working at the intersection of industrial organization and macroeconomics

"This fellowship helps me concentrate on my research and preparation for the job market at the end of the year. Your investment makes a real difference in creating the conditions I need to complete my goal of documenting how commonly overlooked data patterns shape aggregate outcomes, which is central to my dissertation work. I cannot thank you enough."

David Henning

David Henning
Investigating government policy and economic growth in developing countries

"Conducting field work is challenging when internal funding is limited. This award made it possible for me to plan an extra trip to Uganda to supervise field work and engage in discussion with policymakers. I am exceedingly grateful."

Sungwoo Cho

2022–2023
Sungwoo Cho
Studying labor economics, focusing on crime, discrimination and decision-making

"I hope to continue to expand the literature in the field of labor economics through creative use of data. In the future, I hope to contribute to academic community in various ways such as producing research that informs policy decisions, mentoring next generation of economists and promoting diversity, equity and inclusion. One day, I wish to help students as you are. Again, thank you so much for your generosity and I am very honored to receive the award."
