Litigation Involving Mortgage Securitization and Underwriting

Summit is serving as a consulting expert in a series of lawsuits involving identifying defective underwriting of mortgage-backed securities and estimating the extent of these defects. These litigation matters include econometric modeling (including regression analysis), simulation models, testing for sample reproducibility and representativeness, and verifying statistical analysis used to extrapolate the sample statistics to the population.

As part of this engagement, Summit uses prospective supplements and loan tapes to verify loan data and borrower information used during discovery, as well as statistical analysis to support depositions and expert reports. To ensure an effective case on behalf of our client, we also provide statistical and technical support and guidance to our client’s testifying experts. This analysis is being performed for both government and commercial clients involving more than a dozen banks and several billion dollars in securities.
