Dr. Layne to Present "Best Places for Finding a Job" Research

Dr. China Layne has been invited to present her research at the Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA) 2015 Annual Meeting. Her research is entitled “Best Places for Finding a Job: The Role of Regional Occupational Structure in Residents’ Employment Prospects” and was accepted to be presented at the conference, being held this May in Pittsburgh, PA.

Dr. Layne examined how regional economic factors affect an individual’s likelihood of being employed. Specifically, the research focuses on how the mix of occupations within a region affects residents’ probability of being employed. Dr. Layne’s project used data from the American Community Survey and employed a two-level logistic model to separately investigate the effects of both individual- and regional-level characteristics on the likelihood of being employed.

The LERA Annual Meeting is a conference that invites a variety of researchers to discuss current and emerging issues in labor policy and employment research. Dr. Layne previously presented research on the topic of regional occupational structure at the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management’s Fall Research Conference and at the Eastern Sociological Society’s Annual Conference.
