Summit Staff Receives Survival Analysis Training

This week, Summit staff members are taking part in a two-day training program in survival analysis. Conducted by Dr. Paul Allison, the training will discuss how to apply survival analysis using statistical software packages such as SAS and Stata to Summit engagements.

Survival analysis is used to predict or determine which portion of a population will survive past a certain point, or “event.” This concept can be extended to modeling, forecasting, and quantitative evaluation. For example, survival analysis may be useful in determining when a loan will default or when a program may violate a standard or law. Summit professionals conduct this type of analysis daily, and therefore benefit from the training and Dr. Allison’s expertise.

Dr. Allison wrote the text “Survival Analysis Using SAS” and has been teaching courses on the subject for over 25 years. He is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Following each day’s session, Summit staff will have the chance to hold discussions with Dr. Allison, so that they may ask specific questions regarding their work.
