Summer Analyst Program Reflections, Part II: Joseph Albanese

This summer, Joseph Albanese supported multiple engagements through participation in the Summer Analyst program. He shared a few thoughts on the summer and his experience at Summit.

A student at Georgetown University, Joe didn’t have to travel far for the internship, but it did expand his understanding and application of his degree field. “I study International Political Economy,” said Joe, “but this summer has taught me more about accounting/finance.” Joe was primarily focused on the U.S. Department of the Treasury Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Fund engagement. “One task I remember getting a lot of fulfillment from was on CDFI. I was assigned to conduct research of legal documents and assemble a timeline for loan repayments as part of the CDFI Fund Bond Guarantee Program. I knew that this was a vital component to the program, so it was satisfying to know that my work would be seen by many people within Summit and eventually at the Treasury.”

When Joe provided support for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Mutual Mortgage Insurance Fund (MMIF) evaluation engagement, he developed skills in statistical software programs such as Stata. “I had learned about Stata in classes, but applying it in a professional engagement was a lot different than seeing slides about it in a classroom.”

Joe was already familiar with the DC area when he arrived at our office, but he noted that Summit’s staff was welcoming and friendly. He said that spending time in the Chinatown area of the city was a nice change of pace. “Being on campus can feel a little isolated at times. It was good to see more of DC on a daily basis.”

As Joe begins his senior year, we here at Summit wish him the best of luck.
