2013-2014 DOL Scholars Program

DOL ScholarsThe U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Chief Evaluation Office contracted with Summit to administer the grants for the 2013-2014 DOL Scholars Program. The purpose of the program is to expand and promote labor research that is relevant to programs and policies at DOL.

Summit chose six scholars based on their proposals’ methodological rigor and relevance to DOL interests. The scholars each completed an original research paper, which were compiled into a paper series.

Topics included:

  • Assessing the impact of full-day kindergarten on maternal employment
  • Early effects of the 2010 Affordable Care Act on labor market outcomes
  • The effects of summer jobs on justice-involved and disadvantaged youth
  • The effects of relaxing the job search requirement on job match quality
  • The relationship between injury type and the likelihood of underreporting
  • The effects of unionization on worker and workplace safety
