Academic Associates Set to Publish Book Chapter on Big Data

Summit Academic Associate Frauke Kreuter, along with Johns Hopkins University professor Roger Peng, recently finished a chapter in a book entitled Privacy, Big Data, and the Public Good: Frameworks for Engagement.

With the rising availability and wide use of data, the public is justifiably concerned with how and when their personal information is being used. However, research based on this data can help improve lives by aiding policy initiatives and other human needs. To help address these concerns while preserving data availability for research purposes, multiple experts in the field contributed their ideas to this book.

Both Dr. Kreuter and Dr. Peng are participating in other endeavors to help others understand the wealth of data available in today’s world: Dr. Kreuter is a professor at the University of Maryland, focusing in the Joint Program in Survey Methodology and Dr. Peng helped to establish and is teaching online courses in data science through the popular online school Coursera.

Privacy, Big Data, and the Public Good: Frameworks for Engagement is slated to be published in August 2014. The book will be launched with a workshop at the New York Academy of Sciences on June 16. For information, visit their website.

We’re looking forward to reading their ideas on this fast-growing subject!
