Reflections on the 2014 Program

Summit welcomes Summer Analysts and Associates to our offices each summer to apply and grow their skills in a professional setting. Here are a few thoughts from our latest group on the professional and social aspects of working at Summit.

Brian Wong – M.S. (Statistics) – Rutgers University (2014)

“The first meeting that I led to discuss my model results was particularly memorable; it seemed to be a validation to all the work that I had done to that point and was also helpful because of all the feedback I got from the members of my engagement team. Another memorable day was the last happy hour. This was a nice culmination of the internship process, as I think we all had now gotten to know our fellow coworkers and could reflect and have fun with the people we had spent the past 10 weeks with.”

Bryan White – M.S. (Business Analytics) – University of Tennessee (2014)

“If you are given an offer, take it. My internship was an extremely valuable experience. You will work hard, but your work will be applicable to your skills and you will improve at what you do. Summit values its interns and works to integrate you into its team and the DC area.”

Vivek Jha – M.A. (Economics) – American University (2015)

“I would in a heartbeat recommend this internship to anyone interested in data. However, to succeed in the internship and/or this field, one must eventually learn to love data.”

Rachel Gosch – B.S. (Mathematics), B.B.A. (Business Administration) – University of Texas at Austin (2015)

“I enjoyed working on these projects [portfolio analysis for SBA’s 504 and 7(a) programs] because they involved trying to find and tell a ‘story’ with the client’s data. In our analysis presentation slides, we would choose the graphs and order them so that the overall message was clear and the client could understand what the statistics were saying.”

Keren Tseytlin – B.S. (Statistics/Economics) – University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2015)

“The most memorable day I had was the day that we presented our personal research projects in PEAKS for the entire company. It was awesome to hear about everyone’s research interests and also describe my personal research interests to my coworkers.”

Tom Gardner – MBA (Data Analytics concentration) – George Washington University (2015)

“Summit, along with Scully Capital, is developing a tool for a Federal Credit loan program. The project gave me really good insight into the credit underwriting process from a very operational perspective and I was very involved with designing and building the tool, including writing the VBA code. As a developer, I had a hand in designing the look and feel of the tool and was able to advance my Excel VBA skills. I also liked that my sponsor, Matt, let me work very independently but was always available when I had questions for him.”
